Central Oklahoma Earns First Win With 2-1 Triumph At Southern Nazarene

BETHANY, Okla. – Central Oklahoma earned its first win of the season Wednesday night with a 2-1 victory at Southern Nazarene.

"We played better overall tonight," UCO head women's soccer coach Amel Muhamedagic said. "We found a way to get it done. Our defense was good and we feel like we played better overall. It's good to get that first win and now we need to get another one this weekend."

The Bronchos are 1-2-2 on the season and return home Sunday to face Southwestern Oklahoma State. UCO is now 8-0 all-time against Southern Nazarene.

Most of the first half was a scoreless tie but a 44th minute penalty was awarded to the Bronchos. UCO sophomore defender Kaitlyn Cotton stepped up to take the shot and put home her first career goal to give UCO a 1-0 lead going into halftime.

The Bronchos scored early in the second half to make it a two-score game and Cotton was involved again. This time she took a free kick from just past midfield. The ball was sent all the way into the box and right in front of the goal, where Jordan Tanges knocked in a chip shot to make it 2-0 in the 52nd minute.

Southern Nazarene was awarded a penalty in the 79th minute and converted to make it 2-1, but UCO wouldn't give up anything else.

Avery Bass played the full 90 in goal and made three saves.

UCO outshot SNU 19-13 and held a 6-4 advantage in shots on goal.

Central Oklahoma hosts Southwestern Oklahoma State Sunday at 1 p.m. at Tom Thompson Field. The Bronchos open a three-game homestand with SWOSU. Central hosts Washburn and Emporia State to open MIAA play next weekend.
