UCO Bests Missouri Western

Bronchos Win 5-2 In MIAA Matchup In Edmond

EDMOND – Central Oklahoma got back in the win column Saturday afternoon with a 5-2 MIAA victory over Missouri Western.
 
UCO improved to 7-5 on the season and is now 3-2 in the MIAA. Missouri Western is 4-9 overall and 1-5 in league play.
 
The Bronchos won the first five matches against the Griffons from St. Joseph, Missouri. UCO earned the doubles point with wins at No. 2 & 3. Pete Komada and Ayaka Koga won 6-1 at the second position and Hui Soo and Karyna Yurchenko won 6-0 at No. 3.
 
The first doubles done were also the first two singles done Saturday. Soo finished her match at No. 6 almost as quickly as her doubles contest, giving UCO a 2-0 lead with a 6-0, 6-0 victory. Her doubles teammate Yurchenko made it 3-0 UCO with a 6-1, 6-4 win at No. 5 singles.
 
Koga clinched the match with a 6-3, 6-2 win at No. 3 singles, and Anika Ouwejan made it 5-0 with a 6-4, 6-2 win at No. 4 singles.
 
Komada lost 6-4, 6-3 at No. 1 singles and Nefeli Zafeiri dropped a 6-2, 6-3 decision at No. 2 singles as the match wrapped up, 5-2.
 
UCO will spend next week on the road as the Bronchos visit Northeastern State on Thursday, April 17 and Arkansas Fort Smith on Saturday, April 19 for two more MIAA contests. The Bronchos will then finish the regular season at home, with a non-conference match against Cameron April 23 and the final two MIAA matchups against Fort Hays State and No. 16 Nebraska Kearney April 25-26.
 
The 2025 MIAA Women's Tennis Championship is scheduled for May 2-4 in Springfield, Missouri.
