Instant Classic Goes The Wrong Way For Bronchos

Central Oklahoma Falls 72-71 In MIAA Basketball Championship Game

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Central Oklahoma missed a buzzer beater in the MIAA Basketball Championship game Sunday afternoon inside historical Municipal Auditorium and the Bronchos lost 72-71 to Fort Hays State.

UCO finished the 2024-25 season with a 19-13 record.

"Hats off to Fort Hays State, they're a great team and that was a great game," UCO head men's basketball coach Bob Hoffman said. "I wish I could have done more for these guys. We played well and we had a chance but it didn't go our way."

Central Oklahoma trailed 72-71 with 27 seconds remaining and spent most of that time waiting on the final shot. All-Tournament selection Israel Hart dribbled into the lane with five seconds left, kicked out to an open Matthew Willenborg on the wing and the shot missed back iron. Time expired during the scramble for the rebound.

The 2025 MIAA Basketball Championship game had 18 lead changes and it was tied 12 times. UCO's largest lead was seven points, 48-41 in the second half. FHSU's largest lead was seven points, 29-22 in the first half.

Hart led the Bronchos and all scorers in the championship with 25 points. He was 9-for-20 from the floor, 4-for-7 behind the arc, and 3-for-4 at the line, and had a game-high 10 rebounds. Hart was named to the All-Tournament Team after scoring 99 points in four games this week in Kansas City.

JV Seat was also named to the All-Tournament Team. He scored 11 points on Sunday, going 4-for-12 from the field. He hit three 3-pointers. This week in Kansas City, Seat scored 72 points in four games.

Jacobi Sebock scored 16 points to go with six rebounds. Luke Haasl and Jordan Thompson both scored five points, Willenborg finished with four, Parker Hannah added three points, and Ben Averitt scored two.

Central Oklahoma also had seven blocked shots on Sunday and set a new MIAA Basketball Championship record with 22 blocks in a single tournament, besting the previous record by three blocked shots. Haasl had three himself on Sunday and moved up to second place on Central Oklahoma's all-time list with 130 career blocked shots.
