Bronchos Wrap Up Weekend In Arkansas 2-0 With Win Sunday

ARKADELPHIA, Ark. – Central Oklahoma won its third straight match and second in as many days in Arkansas, where the Bronchos beat Henderson State 5-2 Sunday.

UCO improved to 4-1 this season with the win.

"It was a good weekend for us to see what we are capable of," UCO head women's tennis coach Joe Vann said. "We played well at a lot of different spots and that was good to see. It was a good weekend for us."

Central Oklahoma beat Ouachita Baptist Saturday before crossing the street to take down Henderson Sunday. UCO did it with a win in doubles play for the early lead, then four more victories in singles competition.

The doubles point did come down to a tight No. 3 matchup. Nefeli Zafeiri and Pete Komada won 6-1 at No. 1 doubles, then Anika Ouwejan and Ayaka Koga lost 6-3 at No. 2 doubles. At No. 3, Karyna Yurchenko and Hui Soo earned a hard fought 7-6 (11-9) win to get the doubles point for the Bronchos.

Yurchenko turned around and was the first one done in singles play, taking a 6-0, 6-2 win at the No. 6 spot in the lineup. Koga made it 3-0 UCO with a win at No. 5, taking that line 6-2, 6-1. Then Komada clinched the match with a 6-3, 6-2 win at No. 2 singles.

Henderson got on the board with a win at No. 3 singles, 6-2, 7-5 over Ouwejan. At No. 5 singles, Soo won in three sets, 6-4, 5-7, 7-5. HSU got one more point at No. 1 singles, with Zafeiri falling in three sets, 2-6, 7-5, 5-7.
