Bronchos Outrun By Jennies

WARRENSBURG, Mo. – Central Oklahoma went cold in the second half and couldn't keep pace with Central Missouri Saturday in the MIAA when the Bronchos lost 80-58.

UCO is 7-19 following the loss and 6-11 in the MIAA. The Bronchos remain in a three-way tie for ninth place in the league standings with two games left – next week in Edmond.

"You hate to have a second half like we did because we played really well in the first half," UCO head women's coach Emma Andrews said. "If we could've played that way for all four quarters it would have been a better game."

Central Oklahoma and Central Missouri went to halftime tied, 33-33. The Bronchos made three more shots, including two more 3-pointers, in the first 20 minutes, while UCM had a 10-2 advantage at the free-throw line. But the third quarter was different for UCO.

The Bronchos went 3-for-14 in the third quarter, making one three and a pair of free-throws to total nine points. UCM at the same time shot almost 50 percent and outscored UCO 21-9.

The host Jennies continued to shoot the ball well in the fourth, making 8 of 16 shots including 4 of 8 threes and all six free-throw attempts. UCM outscored UCO 26-16 to earn the pullaway victory.

Korie Allensworth led UCO in scoring with 27 points, making 10 of 20 shots on the day. Allensworth hit six 3-pointers and made one free-throw. She pulled down eight rebounds and dished out four assists.

Jordyn Turner finished with 13 points on 4 of 9 shooting, but the senior forward continued to make her presence felt on the inside in grabbing a career-high 17 rebounds Saturday afternoon. The game is the 12th this season for Turner to grab at least 10 rebounds and the fourth with 15 or more.

Karly Wadsworth scored six points in 25 minutes off the bench. The senior guard went 2-for-9 from the floor – all 3-point attempts. Wadsworth has 189 career 3-pointers made, one short of Ami Guffey's school-record 190 made from 1998 – 2002.

LaKysia Johnson (seven), Talia Pogi (three) and Alexis Lewis (two) also scored for the Bronchos.

UCO shot 32.8 percent from the floor on Saturday, making 21 of 64 total shots. The Bronchos were 9-for-34 from behind the 3-point line and 7-for-12 at the free-throw line.

Central Oklahoma has one week left in the regular season and two home games to finish it out. The Bronchos host Arkansas Fort Smith Thursday night and Northeastern State Saturday afternoon. UCO was 11th in the KPI standings the MIAA is using to determine the 10 teams qualifying for next month's postseason tournament. The Bronchos are in a three-way tie for ninth place in the MIAA standings with Northwest Missouri and NSU.

Saturday's finale will also be Senior Day for Allensworth, Johnson, Lewis, Turner, and Wadsworth.
