UCO Scores Season High In Road Win In Texas

Bronchos Beat Sul Ross State 75-62 Saturday In Alpine, Texas

ALPINE, Texas – Central Oklahoma scored a season-high 75 points in a road win at Sul Ross State Saturday afternoon, winning its third consecutive game heading into Christmas Break.

UCO 75, SRSU 62.

The Bronchos and the Lobos were within a possession throughout the entire first quarter and into the second until Sul Ross took a four-point lead. But the Bronchos answered back and went on a short run to go into halftime up 40-35. Central never trailed again.

"We did a good job of staying focused in a game that had a lot of offense," UCO head women's basketball coach Hannah Moeller said. "It can be difficult to get into a shootout but we stayed focused and the defense came back around. Proud of this team for their focus and ability to keep fighting and keep working to find a way to get it done."

Central Oklahoma is 4-7 on the season with the win. UCO heads into Christmas Break on a three-game win streak, the first since 2023. Central returns to play Dec. 30 against McPherson in Edmond.

UCO outscored Sul Ross State 17-7 in the third quarter to pull away and earned a second consecutive double-digit win despite the narrow 20-18 fourth quarter deficit.

A trio of Bronchos scored in double figures to lead the way. Jerney Bennett put up a season-high 16 points to go with five blocks and four rebounds. Kendrick Bailey and Bobbie Fouquet also scored 12 points each.

Nykaiya Dillard and Harley Harbour both scored nine points off the bench, with Harbour's eight rebounds leading the team. Peyton Walker had five points, five assists, and four steals, and Parker Simonsen also scored five points in eight minutes of play. Kaitlyn McCarn added four points and also had a team-high eight rebounds, and Madison Roberts (two) and Talia Pogi (one) also scored.

UCO shot 39.4 percent from the floor and tied a season-high with seven made 3-pointers. UCO went 12-for-20 at the free-throw line.

Walker's 3-pointers to open the second quarter tied the game 21-21, but SRSU hit one to go back up by three. Then Bailey hit one of her three treys to tie it again, 24-24. Sul Ross then went on a 4-0 run to get its biggest lead of the game before the Bronchos took over.

The alternating 3-pointers continued as Bailey hit two more, the latter tying the game, 30-30. Then when Sul Ross hit another to go up 33-30, the Bronchos ended the first half on a 10-2 run in the final 3:14, making 6 of 8 free-throws down the stretch to take a 40-35 halftime lead.

Central Oklahoma hosts McPherson Dec. 30 in the final non-conference game of the season, then starts the new year with 16 MIAA games beginning Jan. 3 at Newman.
