Bronchos Win 70-65 Over Evangel Valor In Edmond

EDMOND – Central Oklahoma got back in the win column with a 70-65 victory over Evangel (Mo.) Tuesday night at Hamilton Field House.
 
UCO improved to 2-7 on the season with the win. Both of the Bronchos wins this season have come at Hamilton. Central now is back on the road for a two-game road trip in Texas this week. The Bronchos play at St. Mary's on Thursday night and at Sul Ross State on Saturday afternoon.
 
It was an up and down night for the Bronchos. UCO led 8-0 to start the game and by as many as 13 points in the first quarter, 21-8, in the final minute. But Evangel got hot in the second quarter and had the game tied, 34-34, with two minutes remaining before halftime. Then the guests from Springfield, Missouri took a 43-38 lead into the break.
 
Evangel led nearly all of the third quarter, but the Bronchos tied the game, 55-55 with 35 seconds remaining, then took the lead for good in the fourth.
 
Olivia Quapaw hit a 3-pointer with 7:13 remaining to give UCO a 60-58 lead and the Bronchos held in front from there. The game was tied 62-62, but UCO finished on an 8-3 run to earn the win.
 
Quapaw led Central Oklahoma with 14 points. She was 6-for-15 from the floor including 2-for-4 from behind the 3-point line in 24 minutes. Nykaiya Dillard scored 13 points, Jerney Bennett added 11, and Kaitlyn McCarn put up 10 points to give UCO four in double figures.
 
Bobbie Fouquet scored eight points, Harley Harbour added six, Kendrick Bailey and Talia Pogi scored three each, and Madison Roberts chipped in two to round out the scoring.
 
Fouquet had a team-high 10 rebounds while Bennett pulled down eight boards. Bennett also had five blocked shots.
 
Central Oklahoma shot 37.5 percent from the floor and 33.3 percent (3-for-9) from behind the 3-point line. The Bronchos were 19-for-27 (70.4 pct.) from the free-throw line.
 
UCO plays at StMU on Thursday night in San Antonio and then at Sul Ross State Saturday afternoon in Alpine, Texas. The Bronchos return from Christmas Break for the final non-conference game of the season and the final game of the calendar year Dec. 30 against McPherson (Kan.) at Hamilton Field House.
