Upset Bid Falls Short

Central Oklahoma's Fourth Quarter Lead Disappears In 61-51 Loss To No. 10 Harding

EDMOND – Central Oklahoma's upset bid of Harding fell short Monday night as the Bronchos ran out of steam in the fourth quarter against the No. 10 team in the country.

Harding 61, Central 51.

"They proved why they're a top 10 team in the fourth quarter," UCO head women's basketball coach Hannah Moeller said. "We had our chance but they just turned it on in the final moments and we couldn't overcome it."

The Bronchos held a 45-44 lead with 8:02 remaining in the game and were still within a basket, 50-47, with six minutes remaining, but a 9-0 Harding run turned the tide. UCO went 1-for-6 in the final six minutes while Harding went 5-for-8 and pulled away for the win.

Central Oklahoma is 1-3 on the season following the loss. The Bronchos return from Thanksgiving for another non-conference game against UC Colorado Springs on Saturday afternoon.

Kaitlyn McCarn led UCO with 18 points on Monday night. The sophomore shot 8-for-17 from the floor, hit the only 3-pointer she attempted, and also made her lone free-throw attempt. She added seven rebounds.

McCarn was the only Broncho in double figures. Kendrick Bailey and Harley Harbour, both former members of Harding's program, and Talia Pogi, all scored six points. Nykaiya Dillard added five, Jerney Bennett and Olivia Quapaw scored four each, and Peyton Walker put in two points.

Bennett led the Bronchos with 10 rebounds and blocked six shots for the second game in a row. The sophomore from Edmond has 15 blocked shots in four games this season.

Bobbie Fouquet pulled down eight rebounds and Harbour and McCarn both had seven boards. Walker had three rebounds to go with three assists and three steals.

Central Oklahoma led 11-10 after one quarter of play and the game was tied 27-27 at halftime. Harding took a two-point lead into the fourth quarter, but then a quick 5-0 run gave the Bronchos their final lead. Dillard made a pair of free-throws and Pogi hit her second 3-pointer to make it 45-44, UCO.
