TOPEKA, Kan. – No. 7 Central Oklahoma started out strong but led a Top 10 showdown at No. 8 Washburn get away falling 3-1 in the 2025 regular season finale.

UCO won 25-23 to take an early lead, but lost 25-22, 25-19, and 25-16 as the game progressively got worse for the Bronchos.

"We played really well in the first set but we let up and let them get back into it, then we just beat ourselves in the end," UCO head volleyball coach Edgar Miraku said. "We're better than we played tonight. We know we get at least one more game next week and now its win or go home from this point."

Central Oklahoma seniors Sydney Huck and Mikiah Perdue led UCO with 15 and 14 kills respectively. Senior Lindsey Houran dished out 43 assists in the match and added 15 digs. Junior Kaitlyn Parrott dug up 20 attacks.

UCO had five total blocks in the match. Senior Lari Migliorino had a solo and two block-assists. Purdue and Riley Roberts had two block-assists each and Houran and Kedron Burk had one each.

Central Oklahoma hit .190 in the match with 51 total kills in four sets.

In the first set, UCO tied it 16-16 to start an 8-3 run that seemed to put it away. But up 23-19, Washburn pushed back and got it to one, 24-23 before Perdue ended it with a kill to give UCO the 1-0 lead in the match.

The Bronchos jumped out a 4-1 lead in the second set and led by as many as four points on six different occasions, including a 19-15 advantage late. UCO fought off the Ichabods for a little bit longer and led 22-19, but host Washburn scored the set's final six points to win 25-22 and tie the match.

An early 5-0 run in the third set put Washburn in front and the Bronchos could never get back in it. UCO got it to two points, but lost pace in the end, 25-19.

Central never led in the fourth and trailed more and more as it ended 25-16.

Central Oklahoma and Emporia State tied for fourth place in the MIAA and Missouri Western and Nebraska Kearney tied for first. Washburn has one game left on Saturday and can move into a three-way tie for first with a win, or with a loss, would be tied with UCO and Emporia.
