PARK CITY, Kan. -- Central Oklahoma opened the 2025-26 wrestling season at the Falcon Open Saturday, returning from the all-day event with 10 placers in two divisions.
The Bronchos took 23 individuals to the huge one-day tournament at Hartman Arena, placing five of seven wrestlers in the Amateur Bracket and five of 16 in the Elite Bracket.
UCO got runner-up finishes in the Elite Bracket from 133 Dailey Jennings and 165 Brady Benham, while 133 Easton Taylor and Hvy Paul Sharp took third and 184 Cameron Johnson fourth.
Cooper Zickefoose captured the 174-pound title in the Amateur Bracket, with Cole Mayfield and Hayze Ivey finishing as co-champions at 157 while Dylan Bratt was third at that weight and Jackson Blackburn third at 197.
The Bronchos sent their starters to Little Rock, Arkansas where UCO makes its dual debut Sunday at noon against No. 25 Ouachita Baptist before taking on Division I No. 22 Little Rock at 3 p.m.
Jennings earned three decisions and a major decision in making the finals, while Benham had three bonus-point wins and a 9-5 victory in advancing to the title bout.
Taylor bounced back from a second-round loss to win four straight in taking third, with Sharp rebounding from an opening-round defeat with five consecutive wins to do the same.
Johnson went 4-2 with three bonus wins in placing fourth and Seth Sarasua was 5-1 before reaching the six-match limit for the day.
Zickefoose was 5-0 on the day with four bonus wins, including a 14-5 major decision in the finals. The freshman survived an overtime battle in the semifinals, winning 7-1 in sudden-victory.
Ivey went 5-0 and Mayfield 4-0 in making the finals against each other and Bratt's only loss in a 5-1 day was to Mayfield. Blackburn was 5-1 in his third-place showing and Kasen Miller went 5-1 before being stopped by the six-match limit.
