No. 4 Bronchos Take Care of Fort Hays State

UCO Claims 16th Sweep of the Season Behind Balanced Offensive Attack

HAYS, Kan. – Lari Migliorino and Mikiah Perdue dominated play at the net to power No. 4-ranked Central Oklahoma past Fort Hays State Friday night.

The senior middle blockers had 11 kills and four blocks apiece as the Bronchos claimed 25-21, 25-16, 25-18 wins for their 16th sweep of the season. UCO improved to 19-2 overall and 5-2 in league play despite missing three starters in Kedron Burk, Sydney Huck and Kamryn Glover

"We're a little banged up, but other girls stepped up and did what needed to be done," said head coach Edgar Miraku, whose team moves on to Kearney, Neb. Saturday for a 1 p.m. showdown against No. 5 Nebraska-Kearney. "Any win on the road in our conference is big, so I'm happy with the result, but we'll obviously need to play much better tomorrow."

Perdue hit .391 in the match with 11 kills and two errors in 23 attacks, while Migliorino hit .381 with 11 kills in 21 attempts with three miscues. Migliorino had two solo and two assisted blocks, with Perdue adding one solo and three assisted rejections.

Sawyer Franz and Myla Unterweger added eight kills apiece to UCO's balanced attack. Riley Roberts did a little bit of everything for the Bronchos in a stellar all-around performance, finishing with seven kills, 14 digs, four assists and three assisted blocks.

Lindsey Houran directed the offensive attack, finishing with 37 assists to go along with 14 digs. Kaitlyn Parrott paced the back row with 20 digs, while Morgan Manning chipped in eight.

UCO trailed 2-0 early in the opening set before getting two Franz kills in a 5-0 run to take the lead for good at 5-2. It was close at 6-5 when the Bronchos ripped off nine unanswered points to open up a 14-5 cushion, getting three kills from Franz and two from Perdue in that decisive spurt.

The lead was 10 at 20-10 after Migliorino and Unterweger teamed up for a block as UCO appeared headed to an easy win, but the Tigers went on an 8-1 run to get within 21-18. Roberts had a key kill down the stretch and FHSU made three errors that allowed UCO to finish off the 25-21 victory.

The second set went back-and-forth before the Bronchos finally took charge midway through. Migliorino knocked down back-to-back kills and teamed with Roberts for a block in a 3-0 run that broke a 13-all tie and put UCO in front to stay.

The lead was 17-15 when Perdue took over. The senior middle blocker had three kills, a solo block and an assisted block as the Bronchos ended the set with an 8-1 run to finish off a 25-16 win.

Central was down 5-4 in the early stages of the third set before again using a big run to take command. This time the Bronchos ripped off eight straight points behind two kills by Perdue and one each by Migliorino, Roberts and Unterweger to surge in front 12-5.

The Tigers briefly rallied and get to within three at 17-14, but two Unterweger kills and one apiece by Migliorino, Perdue and Roberts enabled UCO to compete the sweep.
