Bronchos Play No. 9 UCM To Scoreless Draw

Central Oklahoma Defense Comes Through In MIAA Battle

EDMOND – Central Oklahoma and No. 9 Central Missouri played to a scoreless draw in a phenomenal display of defense at Tom Thompson Field Friday night.

The visiting Jennies from Warrensburg, Missouri took nine shots and Avery Bass saved all six they put on goal. UCO put three of seven shots on goal and UCM, and the goal post, stopped all the Broncho chances.

"So close on a couple of chances and that's been the story all year," UCO head women's soccer coach Amel Muhamedagic said. "Our defense was incredible, but I wish we could've got one of those that were inches away to go in our favor tonight."

Rebekah George got a clean look in the 81st minute and UCM goalkeeper Kristen Wright made a one-handed save. Moments later, Greta Likens got a chance on a ball that had ricocheted multiple times before she came on it at the top of the box. Her shot hit the cross bar.

The Bronchos knew a Central Missouri counter was coming and it came in rapid succession in the 87th minute. A free kick was awarded near midfield and UCM ended up with three shots in less than 15 seconds, all right in front of the UCO goal.

But Bass was ready.

The senior goalkeeper moved to No. 3 on Central Oklahoma's career saves list with 185 and the last two were the biggest. She stopped two shots from UCM Ryann Clark, then the Broncho defense blocked a third shot.

The final 90 seconds lacked the thrill that preceded and the Bronchos came away with their fifth draw of the season. Bass came away with her seventh shutout of the year as well.

Caleah Carter led UCO with three shots in the game. Fioretti, Likens, Lockhart and George had one each. Carter, George, and Fioretti put shots on goal.

Central Oklahoma is now 4-4-5 on the year overall and 2-2-3 in the MIAA. The Bronchos are home again Sunday afternoon to host Missouri Southern at 1 p.m.
