Bronchos Outpaced By UNK

EDMOND – Central Oklahoma's late rally fizzled out as the Bronchos lost to Nebraska Kearney Thursday night in the MIAA.

UCO dropped its fifth consecutive game with the 55-48 setback. Central is now 4-14 on the season and 3-6 in the MIAA.

The Bronchos never had the lead Thursday. UCO trailed 9-2 after four minutes of play. Central did start the second quarter with a run. After starting the frame down 14-8, UCO had it to 16-15 with 5:39 to play until halftime. Unfortunately, a 10-0 run by the visiting Lopers to end the half put the Bronchos down 26-15 at the break.

Kearney had a 15-point lead going into the fourth quarter 40-25. UCO rallied again but couldn't get close enough.

Karly Wadsworth hit two 3-pointers early in the fourth quarter, then two more back-to-back later in the frame. With a layup and the free-throw by LaKysia Johnson, Central trailed by just six points, 50-44, with 1:50 remaining in the game.

Johnson got it to six a second time, 52-46, with 46 seconds left. Korie Allensworth cut it to five, 53-48, with 27 seconds left. UCO was out of time after two more UNK free-throws.

Johnson led UCO with 17 points. The senior guard was 6-for-18 from the floor and 5-for-8 at the line. She also had five rebounds, four steals, and one assist before fouling out after 39 minutes played.

Wadsworth finished with 14 points on 5 of 10 shooting. The senior guard hit four 3-pointers on seven tries and also had one board and one blocked shot.

Allensworth chipped in six points. Peyton Walker, Jordyn Turner, and Talia Pogi each scored three points, and Jacey Crawford finished with two.
