Eli Kirk Earns MIAA Honor Again

Central Oklahoma Redshirt Freshman Named MIAA Wrestler of the Week

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Central Oklahoma redshirt freshman Eli Kirk was named MIAA Wrestler of the Week for the second time this season, the league announced Tuesday.

Kirk, from Guthrie, Oklahoma, went 4-0 on Sunday at Central Missouri's Roger Denker Open in Warrensburg. The second-year squad member posted a bonus-point victory in each of his four competitions to claim the 133-pound title.

Kirk outscored his four opponents a combined 63-8 while allowing just three offensive points – one takedown in the final. He won 17-2 against Iowa Western's Aaron Ohnoutka, 17-1 over UCM's Brock Smith, and 17-2 again over Grand View's Ryan Lobato. Kirk won 12-3 in the finals against Central Missouri's Charlie Dykes.

Kirk is now 17-4 on the season, with 14 bonus-point wins.

No. 5 Central Oklahoma is 7-1 on the season and travels to Springfield, Mo. Friday to take on Drury at 7 p.m. before returning home Sunday to host Colorado State-Pueblo at 2 p.m. on Alumni Day. The 1984-85 and 1994-95 national championship teams will be recognized during the dual, with a reception held before and after in the Hamilton Field House practice gym.
