Bronchos Fall At Pitt State

Central Oklahoma Drops MIAA Road Game At Pittsburg State Saturday

PITTSBURG, Kan. – Central Oklahoma lost its fourth straight game Saturday afternoon with the Bronchos falling 84-56 at Pittsburg State in MIAA play.

"There's a reason they're a top 15 program in the country," UCO head women's coach Emma Andrews said. "We knew it was going to be tough. We just never got in a rhythm and then they kind of took off in the second half."

Central Oklahoma held early leads of 2-0 and 4-2 in the first three minutes of the game, but when Pittsburg State gained the advantage at 8-6, the host Gorillas never trailed again.

UCO trailed 22-15 after the first quarter and with an even 17-17 second frame, still trailed by seven at halftime, 39-32.

A tough third quarter paired with a hot start for Pitt in the second half put UCO in a spot they couldn't recover from. Central was outscored 24-10 in the third quarter and 21-14 in the final frame.

The Bronchos finished the game shooting 37.1 percent, making 23 of 62 total shots. UCO was just 1-for-12 (8.3 pct.) from behind the 3-point line and 9-for-14 (64.3) at the free-throw line. Pitt State shot 56.7 percent overall, made 9 of 17 threes, and went 7-for-11 at the line.

LaKysia Johnson led Central Oklahoma in scoring with 17 points. She was 8-for-13 from the floor and 1-for-2 from the free-throw line. Johnson added three steals and two rebounds.

Talia Pogi also scored in double figures with 14 points on 4 of 12 shooting. She hit one 3-pointer and was 5-for-5 at the free-throw line. Pogi added four boards.

Korie Allensworth made it three in double figures, scoring 13 points on 6 of 16 shooting. She added one free-throw and had a game-high seven rebounds.

Jordyn Turner scored six points to go with four rebounds. Peyton Walker, who played all 40 minutes, scored two points. Jacey Crawford and Alexis Lewis both scored two as well.

UCO will return home next week after a two-week, four-game road swing. The Bronchos host Nebraska Kearney Thursday night in Edmond and will host Fort Hays State for Alumni Day Saturday afternoon.
