Central Oklahoma Senior Earns League Honor For Second Time This Season

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Central Oklahoma senior Studd Morris was named MIAA Wrestler of the Week Tuesday, earning the league's weekly honor for the second time this season.

Morris went 4-0 with wins over three ranked opponents in leading UCO to a runner-up finish in the NWCA Division II National Duals. Central Oklahoma was the No. 2 seed in the tournament and knocked off three ranked teams to reach the finals before falling to No. 1 St. Cloud State, 21-16.

Morris, a senior 125-pounder from Yukon, opened with an 11-1 major decision in a win over Mary. He followed that with a 9-0 major decision over 11th-ranked Shane Corrigan in a quarterfinal win over Wisconsin-Parkside. In the semifinals, Morris knocked off Nebraska-Kearney's top-ranked Zach Ourada, 5-4. While UCO came up short in the final, Morris beat 15th-ranked Conor Knopick 4-1.

Morris is now 17-1 on the season. The former national qualifier missed last season with an injury and has returned to form this winter.

Central Oklahoma is heading to Warrensburg, Missouri this weekend for the Roger Denker Open at Central Missouri. The Bronchos will wrestle at Drury on Friday, Jan. 24 before making a long-awaited return to Hamilton Field House on Sunday, Jan. 26 against Colorado State Pueblo.
