Bronchos Miss Upset, Fall 4-3 To Dallas Baptist

Central Oklahoma held 3-2 Lead In The Second Half Before Falling Late

EDMOND – Central Oklahoma pushed No. 12 Dallas Baptist to the brink, but missed on a big upset against the nationally-ranked opponent in non-conference play.

DBU 4, UCO 3.

Central Oklahoma trailed 1-0 early, then 2-1 in the second half. But a late comeback gave UCO a 3-2 lead. DBU tied the game, and then scored the game winner in the 87th minute.

"Even though we lost, we can learn from this," UCO head women's soccer coach Amel Muhamedagic said. "Both games this week we came back and took the lead in the second half. But we won one of them and lost the other. So we need to learn what we can and make sure we can close out the wins – or even a tie – when we have a lead in the end. But I'm proud of the team for continuing to learn, and grow, and fight. We're getting better."

Dallas Baptist outshot Central Oklahoma 17-10 in the game, with an 11-6 advantage in shots on goal.

Jordan Tanges scored her first career goal with a nice strike in the first half to tie the game, 1-1. Caleah Carter slid a pass over to Jordan Hahn, who sent it forward to Tanges. The freshmen trio soon celebrated after Tanges found the back of the net.

In the second half, it was Hahn scoring her first career goal thanks to an assist from Rebekah George, who chipped in a cross to the back side of the goal, where Hahn slipped one past the diving DBU goalkeeper. That again tied the match, 2-2.

But the Bronchos would soon take the lead. The DBU keeper came way out of the box to clear a ball, but she pushed right to the feet of George. She would take just a couple of paces before firing over the defense and into an empty net to give Central Oklahoma a 3-2 lead in the 66th minute of play.

Unfortunately, DBU found the game-tying goal in the 75th minute, and then the winner in the 88th to take the 4-3 victory.

Avery Bass played all 90 minutes in goal for the Bronchos and made seven saves in the game.

Central Oklahoma will continue a three-game homestand with the final installment Wednesday night at Tom Thompson Field. The Bronchos host Southern Nazarene with kickoff scheduled for 7 p.m.
