UCO Completes Thrilling Comeback, Down ASU

Rebecca Tweedy's Game-Winning Goal In The 84th Minute Gave Central Oklahoma A 3-2 Win

EDMOND – Central Oklahoma soccer opened its home schedule Thursday night with a thrilling, come-from-behind 3-2 victory over Angelo State in a non-conference matchup at Tom Thompson Field.

Trailing 2-0 after 27 minutes of play, the Bronchos got one back in the first half, another in the 57th minute to tie the game, and then the game-winner in the 84th minute.

"I'm really proud of the team for this win," UCO head women's soccer coach Amel Muhamedagic said. "To be down like that early, keep their composure, and then to play a second half like that. They deserve praise. That was a great comeback."

With the game tied, 2-2, in the 84th minute, Madison Linavong got a pass on the right side of the field and dribbled 10 yards up the line on the right side of the box. She sent in a perfect cross over the goalkeeper's head and right to the foot of the waiting Rebecca Tweedy, whose first touch was all that was needed in putting home the game-winning goal.

Central Oklahoma worked most of the possession in the final five minutes to secure the win.

The Bronchos outshot Angelo State 21-7 in the game, including a 13-4 advantage in shots on goal. Avery Bass started the game in goal for UCO and made one save. After allowing the two early goals, Bass was pulled at halftime for Olivia Vigil, who made one more save in the second half to help the Bronchos hang on for victory.

Callie Harbert scored the first goal of the game for UCO. On a corner kick sent in from Sheridan Ross, Harbert lofted a short shot over the keeper's head and into the back of the net for the score. That made it 2-1 Angelo in the 31st minute.

Rebekah George scored Central's game-tying goal in the 57th minute on a free kick. A foul at the top of the box gave UCO prime position for the free kick to be a shot attempt. And George did just that, finding the back of the net to bring the score to 2-2.

Central Oklahoma will need to enjoy this win briefly. The Bronchos are hosting No. 12 Dallas Baptist on Sunday in a big non-conference battle with a nationally ranked opponent. Kickoff from Tom Thompson Field is scheduled for 1 p.m.
