UCO Season Ends In Regionals

Bronchos Fall 4-3 To Augustana In Central Regional Consolation Finals, End Season 37-16

WARRENSBURG, Mo. – Central Oklahoma saw its season come to an end Saturday afternoon with a 4-3 loss to Augustana in the NCAA Division II Baseball Championship Central Regional consolation final.

UCO finished the 2024 season with a 37-16 record.

"At this point you hate to even talk about the game, not much to say about it," UCO head baseball coach John Martin said. "I want to make sure the seniors on this team know how much they meant to the program. They got us back here. It didn't work out this time. But we had a great season and we're grateful for those guys."

Central Oklahoma, which lost 4-3 to Augie in the opening round Thursday night, battled back with a win over Minnesota State on Friday to extend the season. But a one-run game went the wrong way Saturday.

UCO scored all three runs in the third inning against the Vikings from Sioux Falls, South Dakota. Ty Chapman led off with a double, his fourth hit in as many at bats in the playoffs, then moved to third on a bunt single by Kaleb Glass. After Glass stole second, Carson Carpenter scored both of them with a single to right field to give UCO a 2-1 lead. Garrett Long added to it with an RBI single to right field that scored Carpenter and gave UCO a 3-1 advantage.

Augustana tied the game with an RBI double in the bottom of the third, then took the lead with an RBI triple in the fourth that made it the final 4-3.

Dax Sharp got the start and threw 2 1/3 innings. He allowed three runs on five hits, but struck out three batters on the day. Preston Giltner was first out of the bullpen for the Bronchos and he took the loss on Saturday, giving up one run on three hits. Giltner struck out four batters in 1 2/3 innings pitched.

Austin Burda and Valek Cisneros threw the final four innings. Burda gave up two hits and a walk and struck out two batters in 2 1/3 innings pitched. Cisneros walked one batter and recorded three strikeouts in 1 2/3 innings pitched.

Carpenter, Orlando Gonzalez, and Chapman all went 2-for-4 on Saturday to lead the Bronchos. Glass, Ty Hammack, and Long, all had one hit as well.
