Bronchos Fall To Rogers State In Regional

3-0 Loss Drops UCO Into Elimination Game

CLAREMORE, Okla. – Central Oklahoma's task of advancing to next week's NCAA Division II Central Super Regional just got a lot harder.

The No. 12-ranked Bronchos fell into the loser's bracket of the Central Regional II Tournament with a tough 3-0 setback to host and No. 10-rated Rogers State Friday. UCO, now 43-13, returns at 4 p.m. to take on the Washburn-Southern Nazarene winner in an elimination contest.

The winner of that game must beat RSU twice Saturday to move on to face the Central Regional I Tournament champion next week for a berth in the Division II World Series.

"It was a battle between two really good teams and one swing of the bat was basically the difference," head coach Cody White said. "Two great pitchers went at it and they took advantage of one mistake.

"But we don't have time to sulk about it. We just have to turn on focus to the next game and give ourselves a chance to come back tomorrow."

UCO's Terin Ritz and SNU's Jade Sanders engaged in a classic pitcher's duel for five innings, with Ritz allowing just one hit and Sanders two.

The Hillcats (45-10) finally broke through in the top of the sixth, starting with Abbey Rogers' two-out bloop double to short right field that just evaded the grasp of second baseman Rylee Anglen. Kaylee Lyon followed and drove Ritz's second pitch over the left-center field wall.

That made it 2-0 and Rogers added an unearned run in the seventh to end a five-game losing streak to the Bronchos.

Both teams had just four hits, with UCO getting singles from Emily Deramus in the first, Shayleigh Odom and Anglen in the fifth and Jacee Minter in the sixth.
