Bronchos Return Home With Big Win

Central Oklahoma Trounces Fort Hays State In MIAA Dual

EDMOND – Central Oklahoma had a good welcome back showing Friday afternoon with a 6-1 win over Fort Hays State at Broncho Courts.
 
UCO improved to 5-5 on the season and 1-1 in the MIAA. Fort Hays State is 6-7 on the year and 0-3 in league play.
 
The Bronchos used a dominating performance in doubles to take command Friday. Central won all three positions with impressive 6-0, 6-1, 6-1 scores, conceding just two points in the first half of the day.
 
UCO had a 6-0 lead in the dual before Hays got its only win of the day at No. 6 singles with a 7-5, 7-5 setback for Ayaka Koga.
 
Nefeli Zafeiri, Pete Komada, and Blythe Buntrock carried that over into Singles play. Zafeiri won at No. 1 6-0, 6-1 and Buntrock won by the same margins at No. 3. Komada won 6-1, 6-1 at No. 2 singles.
 
Karyna Yurchenko didn't have much trouble at No. 4, taking a 6-3, 6-0 victory. And Anika Ouwejan found her way through a straight-set 6-3, 6-2 win to give UCO six points.
 
The Bronchos have quick turnaround before hosting No. 28 Nebraska Kearney Saturday morning at 10 a.m. The match has been moved up due to forecasted weather Saturday afternoon.
