Bronchos Win 6-1 In Edmond Saturday, Earning Back-to-Back MIAA Wins On The Weekend

EDMOND – Central Oklahoma won the weekend with its second win in as many days, beating Emporia State 6-1 Saturday afternoon at Broncho Courts.
 
Central Oklahoma improved to 7-9 on the season and 3-4 in the MIAA. The Bronchos have just one game left in the regular season, next Saturday against Northeastern State.
 
The 2024 MIAA Women's Tennis Championship begins May 3 at Edmond Center Court. UCO has clinched a spot in the postseason tournament and can finish either fourth, fifth, or sixth in the final standings.
 
Saturday, a three-match sweep of doubles play gave Central Oklahoma a 1-0 lead on Emporia State. Then the Bronchos crushed singles play, winning all but one to take the MIAA dual.
 
Blythe Buntrock and Nefeli Zafeiri won 6-2 at No. 1 doubles, Karyna Yurchenko and Anika Ouwejan won 6-3 at No. 2 doubles, and Ayaka Koga and Manon Hallemans picked up a 6-4 win at No. 3 doubles to give UCO the early lead.
 
In singles play, Zafeiri won 6-4, 6-1 at No. 1 singles, and Pete Komada returned to the lineup and won 7-6 (7-2), 6-0 at No. 2 singles. Buntrock won in the only three-set match of the day. She picked up a 6-3, 4-6, 7-5 win at No. 3 singles.
 
Emporia State got its only point of the day with a 6-3, 7-5 win at No. 4 singles over Yurchenko.
 
Ouwejan added a point with a 6-4, 6-3 win at No. 5 singles, and Koga won 7-5, 6-0 at No. 6 singles to give UCO the 6-1 win in the dual.
