Central Oklahoma Falls At Northwest Missouri

Bronchos Lost Second Game In Two Days Against Ranked Opponent

MARYVILLE, Mo. – Central Oklahoma dropped its second game in a row on the weekend falling 5-2 at No. 19 Northwest Missouri.
 
The Bronchos are now 5-8 on the season and 1-4 in the MIAA. Northwest is 19-1 overall and 5-0 in league play.
 
Saturday, Central took the doubles point with wins at No. 1 and No. 3 doubles. But NWMSU won each of the first three singles matches, and both of No. 5 and No. 6 singles.
 
No. 24 Blythe Buntrock and Pete Komada took a 6-4 win at No. 1 doubles to clinch the first point of the match. Karyna Yurchenko and Anika Ouwejan won 6-2 at No. 3 doubles before Northwest picked up a 6-2 win over Nefeli Zafeiri and Ayaka Koga at No. 2 doubles.
 
Yurchenko won 7-6 (7-2), 6-0 at No. 4 singles to get UCO its second point, but that was it for the Bronchos.
 
Zafeiri lost 6-4, 5-7, 2-10, at No. 1 singles. Komada lost 6-3, 3-6, 5-7 at No. 2 singles. And Buntrock lost 1-6, 2-6 at No. 3 singles. Ouwejan lost in three sets as well, falling 5-7, 6-4, 2-6, at No. 5 singles. And Koga lost 2-6, 0-6 at No. 6 singles.
 
Central Oklahoma has a midweek non-conference game Tuesday at No. 28 Cameron before hosting Newman and Emporia State in MIAA duals next weekend in Edmond. The Bronchos wrap up the regular season April 27 vs. Northeastern State.
