Central Oklahoma Stumbles In Tahlequah

Bronchos Fall 73-57 In MIAA Road Game At Northeastern State

TAHLEQUAH, Okla. – Central Oklahoma's late rally was to late as the Bronchos dropped an MIAA road contest, 73-57, at Northeastern State Saturday afternoon at Tahlequah Event Center.
 
Central Oklahoma dropped to 7-19 on the season with the loss and 6-14 in the MIAA.
 
Karly Wadsworth led UCO in scoring with 15 points off the bench. The fourth-year junior hit 5 of 9 shots and was 5 of 7 on shots behind the 3-point line. The five makes from outside ties her career high.
 
Caley Young and Natalie Stice both scored nine points. Talia Pogi added eight. Aliyah Llanusa chipped in five points, Reagan Fox and LaKysia Johnson both had three, Gracee Miller and Alexis Martin had two, and Lexi Foreman scored one point.
 
Central Oklahoma shot 31.3 percent from the floor on Saturday. UCO made 20 of 64 shots, 10 of 29 from outside, and 7 of 10 from the free-throw line.
 
NSU senior Haile Jones led all scorers with 24 points. NSU shot 48.1 percent from the floor on Saturday.
 
Central Oklahoma had just one lead in the game on Saturday. UCO went in front 16-15 when Fox hit a 3-pointer. UCO led 18-15 before NSU went on a 7-0 run to end the opening quarter.
 
Northeastern State led by four after one quarter, 22-18, then stretched the lead to nine, 39-30 by halftime. UCO went cold in the third quarter, hitting just 3 of 12 shots, and trailed 55-39 heading into the final frame.
 
UCO opened the fourth quarter on a 12-0 run that included three 3-pointers by Wadsworth and another by Pogi. That cut the lead to four, 55-51, but UCO then gave up a 6-0 run and NSU shook off the run and found its way to the winner's circle.
 
Central Oklahoma has two games left in the 2023-24 regular season. The Bronchos host Northwest Missouri Thursday, Feb. 29 and conclude the regular season Saturday, March 2 against Newman.
 
UCO is one game behind Washburn for 10th place in the MIAA. The top 10 teams make next month's MIAA Basketball Championship in Kansas City. For the Bronchos, they must go 2-0 and hope Washburn goes 0-2 next week.
