Late Free-Throws Lift Central Oklahoma To MIAA Road Win

Alexis Martin Sank Two Free-Throws With 1.0 Second Left To Edge Rogers State

CLAREMORE, Okla. – Alexis Martin sank two free-throws with 1.0 second left on the game clock, and Lexi Foreman blocked the buzzer-beater attempt after a timeout to help Central Oklahoma to a 56-54 MIAA road win over Rogers State Thursday night at the Claremore Expo Center.

UCO improved to 7-18 on the season with the win and 6-13 in the MIAA. Rogers State fell to 9-16 on the year and 4-15 in league play.

The win also kept hope alive for Central Oklahoma as the playoffs become one day closer. With Washburn's win against Lincoln Thursday, UCO remained one game back of the 10th and final spot in next month's MIAA Basketball Championship in Kansas City.

Caley Young led UCO with 14 points on 6 of 10 shooting. Natalie Stice joined her in double figures with 12 points off the bench. She was 4 of 9 from the floor, hit one 3-pointers, and made 3 of 4 free-throws.

Martin finished with nine points. She missed a 3-pointer with 30 seconds left and the game tied, 54-54. Foreman got an offensive rebound, but UCO turned the ball over with 17 seconds to play. Rogers State then took a shot with just a few seconds remaining and Martin grabbed the rebound. She was fouled on the play and went down to the other end of the floor and sank both free-throws to give UCO the 56-54 lead and the win.

Thursday's game had 14 lead changes and it was tied 12 times. The back and forth started early. UCO led 15-14 at the end of the first quarter, but trailed until late in the third quarter. That changed thanks to an 11-0 run by Central. Trailing 40-30 with four minutes left in the third quarter, facing their biggest deficit of the night, UCO turned out an 11-0 run to take a 41-40 lead.

Rogers tied the game at 41 heading to the final frame, where UCO outscored the host Hillcats 15-13 to get the win.

Central Oklahoma shot just 35.2 percent from the floor on Thursday and went 4-for-20 from behind the 3-point line. UCO went 14-for-19 (73.7 pct.) from the free-throw line.

Llanusa added seven points, four rebounds, three assists and three steals. Foreman finished with five points, the one block, and two rebounds.

Karly Wadsworth and Talia Pogi both scored three points. Alena Wilson scored two points and LaKysia Johnson added one point.

Central Oklahoma plays at Northeastern State Saturday afternoon. UCO wraps up the regular season next weekend with home games against Northwest Missouri and Newman.
