Bronchos Rally Past Rogers State

Central Oklahoma Earns 58-54 MIAA Win Sunday In Edmond

EDMOND – A big fourth quarter was just enough for Central Oklahoma as the Bronchos beat Rogers State 58-54 in MIAA play Sunday afternoon at Hamilton Field House.

UCO, which is now 3-9 on the season, is 2-1 in the MIAA thanks to the come-from-behind victory. The Bronchos outscored Rogers State 19-6 in the fourth quarter to earn the four-point win.

Central Oklahoma trailed 48-33 with 3:32 to play in the third quarter before ending the frame on a 6-0 run – all via free-throws – to get it back to single digits heading to the final quarter. UCO got a 3-pointer on the first possession of the fourth, then after Rogers responded with a three of its own, the Bronchos reeled off an 8-0 run.

In just under 10 minutes of game time, Central Oklahoma outscored Rogers State 17-3.

That would however get UCO's deficit to just one point, 51-50, with 5:11 left in the game. Rogers stretched the lead back to four points, 54-50, with 2:37 left, but the guests wouldn't score again.

Jordyn Turner got a layup with a big assist from Peyton Walker on a pick-and-roll play down the lane. LaKysia Johnson added a jumper to tie the game. Then Turner, Talia Pogi, and Walker, each made free-throws to put UCO at 58-54 with 10 seconds remaining in the game.

Pogi led the Bronchos with a game-high 18 points. The junior guard went 6-for-17 from the floor, 3-for-7 from behind the arc, and 3-for-6 from the free-throw line. Pogi added two rebounds, one assist and one steal in 35 minutes of play.

Korie Allensworth added 16 points on just 3 of 12 shooting. The senior forward went 9-for-10 at the free-throw line and pulled down eight rebounds.

Johnson scored eight off the bench and had two steals. Turner scored seven points and had a game-high 14 rebounds. Karly Wadsworth scored four points, Walker finished with three, and Parker Simonsen added two points.

Central Oklahoma finished the game shooting 29.3 percent as a team. The Bronchos were 17-for-58 overall, 4-for-15 from behind the 3-point line (26.7 percent) and 20-for-28 from the free-throw line (71.4) percent.

UCO led by two points after scoring the first basket of the game, then managed a one-point lead, 20-19, early in the second quarter. There were only four lead changes during the entire game, and when UCO went up 58-54 in the final seconds, it was the biggest lead of the game for the Bronchos.

UCO is done with the 2024 portion of its 2024-25 schedule. The Bronchos return Jan. 4 with Newman at Hamilton Field House. Central Oklahoma has 16 MIAA games in the new year.
