Central Oklahoma Loses in Colorado

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Central Oklahoma fell into an early deficit and never recovered before an 78-54 loss at UC Colorado Springs Tuesday night.
 
The Bronchos are now 2-9 on the season following the final non-conference game of the year. The Bronchos return to play Sunday against Rogers State. UCO will have 16 MIAA games in the new year.
 
Korie Allensworth and Talia Pogi led Central Oklahoma with 12 and 11 points respectively. The duo gave the Bronchos a 6-4 lead with back-to-back 3-pointers in the early moments of Tuesday's game. It was the only lead held by UCO.
 
Allensworth played 39 minutes and was 4-for-15 from the floor. She added eight rebounds, two steals and one blocked shot. Pogi played 38 minutes and was 4-for-13. She added three assist and one rebound.
 
Jordyn Turner added eight points and six rebounds. Karly Wadsworth scored seven and hit one 3-pointer. Alexis Martin and Parker Simonsen both scored five points and Peyton Walker and LaKysia Johnson both scored three points.
 
Central Oklahoma got off to a tough start with three turnovers in the first 100 seconds. The Bronchos were down 4-0 early. Allensworth and Pogi responded with back-to-back 3-pointers to take a 6-4 lead with 6:29 left in the first quarter. UCCS tied it up on the next possession and took what would be the lead for good 9-6 with 5:23 to go.
 
The Cougars outscored UCO 16-9 in the opening quarter and led 41-27 at halftime.
 
Central Oklahoma hosts Rogers State on Sunday at Hamilton Field House. The last game of the 2024 calendar year for the Bronchos tips at 1:30 p.m. The Hillcats are 5-5 this season. Both teams are looking for their first MIAA win of the early conference schedule.
