UCO Falls In MIAA Soccer Championship

Bronchos Narrowly Miss Third League Title In 1-0 Loss To Central Missouri

WICHITA, Kan. – An early goal was all it took to turn back Central Oklahoma in the 2024 MIAA Women's Soccer Championship Final Saturday at Scheels Stryker Soccer Complex with the Bronchos falling 1-0 to Central Missouri.

UCO aimed to win its third league championship but couldn't get one past the UCM defense.

"I'm really proud of the girls for their fight today," first-year head women's soccer coach Amel Muhamedagic said. "It's not easy to get to this game. While we really wanted to win it, we're still proud. And we're not done yet."

Central Oklahoma will await the NCAA Division II Women's Soccer Championship's announcement Monday night to learn of its postseason fate. UCO was ranked fifth in the final regional rankings heading into Saturday's match. The Bronchos hope to qualify for the Central Regional and earn a 16th appearance in the national tournament.

Saturday in Wichita, Central Missouri earned a corner kick in the 13th minute and would score on the play. The first touch redirected the ball to Lexi Ruf, who scored from a yard off the end line.

Central Oklahoma outshot Central Missouri 9-6 in the match and held a 5-4 advantage in placing shots on goal. But the Bronchos never earned a corner kick the entire match. UCM had six, including the set piece that produced the only score of the day.

Avery Bass played the full 90 in goal and made three saves in the game. The junior goalkeeper helped the Bronchos to four consecutive shutouts heading into Saturday's final.

Central Oklahoma has qualified for the national tournament 15 times in its 26-year program history. The Bronchos will watch the NCAA Selection Show Monday night.
