Central Holds Off MSU

WICHITA FALLS, Texas – Central Oklahoma earned its first win of the new season Saturday night with a 58-52 victory at Midwestern State.
 
The Bronchos used a big third quarter rally to gain an advantage and held off the host Mustangs in the final frame to improve to 1-3 on the season. UCO will make its home debut Tuesday night with a 5:30 p.m. matchup against No. 22 Southern Nazarene at Hamilton Field House.
 
Saturday, Central's defense produced a suffocating effort that held MSU to 22.6 percent shooting in its own gym. Midwestern State took an incredible 84 shots, but only made 19 of them on the night.
 
Jordyn Turner and Korie Allensworth led Central Oklahoma with both forwards finishing with double-doubles. Turner scored 13 points and pulled down 15 rebounds. Allensworth also scored 13 points and she had 13 rebounds.
 
LaKysia Johnson added 11 points off the bench to give UCO three in double figures.
 
Gracee Miller added nine points, and Talia Pogi, Karly Wadsworth, and Jacey Crawford all scored four to help out the effort.
 
Turner finished the game 5-for-6 shooting and added three free-throws. She also had four blocks in the game. For her 15 boards, Turner grabbed four offensive and 11 defensive rebounds.
 
Allensworth went 5-for-12 on the ninght, hitting one 3-pointer and a pair of free-throws. She also chipped in two assists and one steal. For her 13 boards, Allensworth had two on offense and 11 defensive rebounds.
 
Central Oklahoma and Southern Nazarene tip off Tuesday night in Hamilton Field House. The Bronchos have a busy week with their first home game, a road trip to Searcy, Arkansas to take on Harding Thursday, and another home date with Southwestern Oklahoma State Saturday in Edmond.
