Bronchos Play Bearcats To Scoreless Draw

Central Oklahoma Posts Second MIAA Shutout In Third League Game

EDMOND – Central Oklahoma graduate transfer Rebekah George lined up a free kick with seven seconds remaining in the game and connected with the crossbar on her shot. Officials ruled the ball did not cross the end line as it deflected down into the box.

UCO 0, Northwest Missouri 0.

"We really wish we could've gotten that one," UCO head soccer coach Amel Muhamedagic said. "While we know after the fact that the ball did go in, that wasn't the call, and we have to live with that. We played well tonight. Would've loved to get the win. But we'll take the point.

"Give credit to our defense," Muhamedagic continued. "They played great tonight. We've got two shutouts in three MIAA games and that's big for us. We've only given up one goal in three MIAA games. We need to build off that and keep working to get better as the season goes on."

Avery Bass played the full 90 in goal and pitched her second shutout of the season after blanking No. 21 Washburn last Friday night. This week at home, Bass made five saves in goal to keep another clean sheet.

Central Oklahoma outshot Northwest Missouri 14-7 overall and held an 8-5 advantage in shots on goal.

The second have didn't have much action. Both teams took three shots, with UCO putting two on goal and NWMSU putting one on target. It was the second half when the Bronchos started to press.

Freshman forward Caleah Carter took six shots in the game and put four on goal. Freshman forward Jordan Hahn took three shots and put two on target. George had two on the night, including the one in the 90th minute.

UCO had several chances in the final 20 minutes, but couldn't break through. In a scramble at the end of regulation, with the Bronchos trying to make a final push, a foul was called on Northwest Missouri and a free kick was awarded to Central. George lined the kick up. She fired the shot from 30 yards with five seconds left on the clock. As it bounced down from the crossbar, and back up in the air into the box, time expired before a play could be made on the ball.

Central Oklahoma is now 4-3-2 overall this season and has a 1-0-2 record in the MIAA. The Bronchos will stay home for the weekend and host Missouri Western (8-0-1, 3-0-0 MIAA) on Sunday at 1 p.m.
