Bronchos Draw Rogers State On Senior Day

EDMOND – A stunning turn of events left Central Oklahoma with a 2-2 draw against Rogers State Sunday afternoon in MIAA play at Tom Thompson Field.

Central Oklahoma is 8-5-3 on the season following the tie and 5-2-3 in the MIAA. There are just two games left in the regular season. The Bronchos play at Pittsburg State Friday and will visit Newman in the season finale Nov. 6.

Sunday, Harmony Turner's 82nd-minute goal gave the Bronchos a 2-0 lead. The free-kick strike from 20 yards out seemingly sealed the deal on the win.

However. In the 86th minute, a Rogers State forward flicked a ball over UCO goalkeeper Olivia Vigil way out at the top of the box. As she raced to the ball to put home an easy goal, defender Kaitlyn Cotton beat her to the ball and cleared the play. But her tackle on the forward was called a penalty.

Rogers put the penalty kick home to make it 2-1 in the 87th.

Then in the 88th, Rogers got all the way to its end line and after another miscue by Vigil, the visiting Hillcats put home the game-tying goal.

Central Oklahoma outshot Rogers State 13-5 in the contest and posted a 7-3 advantage in shots on goal. Vigil only had to make one save in the first 85 minutes.

UCO took a 1-0 lead in the 12th minute when Madison Linavong scored a chip shot off a pass from Rebekah George.

Central Oklahoma heads into its final two matches tied for fourth place in the MIAA standings with Northwest Missouri. The top four teams in the league host a playoff game on Nov. 10.
