UCO Picks Up 4-0 Win Over Nebraska Kearney Sunday In Edmond

EDMOND – Central Oklahoma wrapped up a perfect weekend with a 4-0 win over Nebraska Kearney Sunday afternoon in an MIAA matchup at Tom Thompson Field.

UCO improved to 6-4-2 overall on the season and 3-1-2 in the MIAA. The Bronchos remain tied for fourth place in the league standings with three weeks left in the season. The top four teams in the final standings will host a first-round quarterfinal match in the MIAA Women's Soccer Championship next month.

Sunday in Edmond, Rebekah George got the scoring started early and the graduate student from Choctaw nearly had a hat trick in record time.

She scored her first goal in the third minute of the game off an assist from Caleah Carter, then got another in the 17th minute. A third shot from inside the 18-yard box was saved that would've given her three goals.

Jordan Tanges added the third goal for the Bronchos with a laser of a strike from 25 yards out on the right side of the box. That made it 3-0 in the 30th minute.

In the second half, Rebecca Tweedy had two shots that nearly got in, and her third attempt did. Tweedy got a pass from Carter and found space before taking a shot that went right over the goalkeeper's head and into the back of the net.

Avery Bass continued her dominant play in goal. The senior from Broken Arrow, Oklahoma made five saves in the game as she saw a dozen UNK shots in the full 90 minutes. It's the third shutout of the season for Bass, who has 40 saves in 10 games played. She also kept a clean sheet for the 45 minutes she played on Friday night.

Central Oklahoma went 2-0 this weekend with a 5-2 win over Fort Hays State and Sunday's 4-0 win. The Bronchos will hit the road next weekend for a trip to No. 5 Central Missouri. The Jennies, who were downed 1-0 Sunday at Missouri Western, are 7-3-2 on the year and 4-1-1 in the MIAA.

UCO will also visit Missouri Southern (1-7-4, 0-4-2 MIAA) next Sunday.
