Bronchos Batter Fort Hays State

Central Oklahoma Earns 5-2 MIAA Win Friday Afternoon

EDMOND – Central Oklahoma ended a two-game scoreless drought in a big way Friday afternoon, beating Fort Hays State 5-2 in an MIAA contest at Tom Thompson Field.

The Bronchos managed a 1-0 lead in the 21st minute, then a bizarre turn of events opened the flood gates for UCO. Madison Linavong charged into the box for a loose ball and the Fort Hays goalkeeper and Linavong went for the ball at the same time. A foul was called, then a red card was issued to the Hays keeper, who had played all 900 minutes of the season in goal for the visiting Tigers.

The backup entered the game as Hays went down to nine field players, then Linavong buried the penalty to give UCO a 2-0 lead.

Just four minutes later, Tatum Tallal took a ball on her own down the right side before firing a shot over the new goalkeeper to make it 3-0, UCO.

In the second half, the goal barrage continued.

Becca Tweedy gave UCO a 4-0 lead in the 47th minute. Then Hays got on the board with a goal in the 48th minute. Just moments later in the 52nd, Tweedy struck again to make it 5-1. Hays got the last goal in the 61st minute.

Avery Bass started in goal for the Bronchos and played the first 45 minutes, recording a clean sheet for her time. Olivia Vigil played the second half and did give up the two goals. Bass needed to make just one save in the game. Vigil made five.

Jada Ryan scored the first goal for the Bronchos, burying an up-close shot off a rebound in the 22nd minute.

Central Oklahoma has one more home game on a four-game homestand. The Bronchos host Nebraska Kearney on Sunday at 1 p.m.
