Bronchos Outpaced In Road Loss At Missouri Western

Central Oklahoma Falls 73-49 In MIAA Road Game

ST. JOSEPH, Mo. – Central Oklahoma came up short in its bid for a third straight win Saturday afternoon, falling 73-49 at Missouri Western in MIAA play.

Central Oklahoma is 4-14 on the season following the loss and 3-9 in the MIAA. Missouri Western improved to 13-4 overall and 8-3 in league play.

"We played a lot better in the second half, but it was too late by that point," UCO head women's basketball coach Emma Andrews said. "We need to be able to play all four quarters at the level we finished with to have a chance. They're a good team, but we put ourselves in a tough spot with how the first half went.

Central Oklahoma got off to a tough start, committing six turnovers in the first four minutes. The Bronchos did not attempt a shot during the opening stretch. But UCO's defense kept it close, and the offense responded. The Bronchos got it to 8-6 with three minutes remaining in the first quarter. Missouri Western though had a run of its own and went on a 7-2 run to end the quarter and took a 15-8 lead into the first break of the day.

That trend continued in the second quarter. The Bronchos made just two shots in the first quarter and turned the ball over 10 times, then made two shots in the second quarter and turned the ball over 10 more times. UCO was 4-for-18 in the first half, including 1-for-7 from behind the 3-point line, and the Bronchos were also 5-for-6 from the free-throw line.

UCO improved on offense in the third quarter, hitting five shots, but Missouri Western continued to increase its lead by outscoring the Bronchos 19-11 in the frame.

Central finished strong despite the deficit. The Bronchos outscored the Griffons 24-17 in the fourth quarter and shot over 50 percent in the final frame.

UCO ended the day 17-for-50 overall, 34.0 percent, and 4-for-17 from behind the arc, 23.5 percent. The Bronchos were 11-for-15 from the free-throw line.

Aliyah Llanusa led Central with 15 points and six rebounds. She also had three assists and one steal. Llanusa shot 4 of 9 from the floor and was 7-for-7 from the free-throw line.

Karly Wadsworth and LaKysia Johnson both scored 11 off the bench. Wadsworth went 4-for-8 from the floor, 3-for-6 from behind the arc, and also had three rebounds, one assist, and a steal. Johnson went 4-for-11 from the floor and 3-for-6 from the free-throw line. She had five rebounds.
