Bronchos Top Bearcats In Maryville

Central Oklahoma Wins 71-57 In MIAA Road Game

MARYVILLE, Mo. – Central Oklahoma earned its first official win streak of the season after a 71-57 victory on the road at Northwest Missouri Thursday night.
 
It was single-digit temperatures and snowing outside Bearcat Arena, but the Bronchos shot 53.3 percent from the floor and had five score in double figures to get the win.
 
"I'm really proud of the team effort tonight," UCO head women's basketball coach Emma Andrews said. "Everybody got involved and we needed that. That was a good win against a really good team and we're pretty happy with our performance."
 
Central Oklahoma improved to 4-13 on the season and is now 3-8 in the MIAA. Northwest Missouri is 12-4 on the year and now 6-4 in league play.
 
Gracee Miller led Central Oklahoma with a season-high 14 points. The freshman from Comanche, Oklahoma went 2-for-3 from the floor, all 3-pointers, and went 8-for-8 from the free-throw line.
 
Aliyah Llanusa also had 14 points and also made eight free-throws. Llanusa was 3-for-8 from the from the floor and 8-for-12 from the line. She added seven assists and a team-high six rebounds.  
 
Caley Young added 13 points to go with five rebounds. She was 6-for-10 from the floor, knocking down five jump shots and adding one and-1 layup. Alena Wilson and Karly Wadsworth both scored 10 points as well. Wadsworth hit two 3-pointers in the game.
 
Talia Pogi added five points, Reagan Fox and LaKysia Johnson both scored two, and Lexi Foreman added one.
 
Central Oklahoma shot 53.3 percent from the floor, hitting 24 of 45 total shots. The Bronchos went 5-for-13 from behind the 3-point line and 18-for-23 from the free-throw line.
 
UCO jumped out to an early 5-0 lead in the first quarter and never trailed in the first stanza. The game was tied twice, 12-12, and 14-14, with the latter how the frame ended.
 
Northwest took its first lead of the game in the second quarter. After getting a stop on the opening possession, Northwest got a fastbreak layup to take a 16-14 lead. The Bearcats led halfway through the second quarter before a UCO timeout turned the tide.
 
Trailing 23-18 with just over five minutes left in the quarter, Central Oklahoma called a timeout and then turned it up a notch to go on a 13-2 run. UCO outscored Northwest 17-11 in the second quarter and led 31-25 at halftime.
 
Central Oklahoma controlled the third quarter, leading by as many as 12 points midway through the frame and eventually taking a 14-point lead, 50-36, in the final seconds. A pair of free-throws by the host Bearcats made it 50-38 heading to the fourth quarter.
 
The final frame was mostly even, UCO edging NWMSU 21-19, as the Bronchos held firm for their second win in a row. Central Oklahoma began a three-game road trip with Thursday night's game. The Bronchos are back in action Saturday at Missouri Western and will visit Newman next Saturday in Wichita, Kansas.
