Central Oklahoma Ends Losing Streak With 69-60 Win Over Rogers State

EDMOND – Central Oklahoma used a big fourth quarter to earn a 69-60 win over Rogers State in MIAA play Saturday afternoon at Hamilton Field House.
 
Central is now 3-13 on the season and 2-8 in the MIAA. Rogers State is 7-8 on the year and 2-7 in league play.
 
"We still didn't play a good four quarters, but we did well enough in the first and the fourth to get a win and we needed that," UCO head women's basketball coach Emma Andrews said. "We need to understand we are capable of winning and any time we can get a win, it helps us grow."
 
Central Oklahoma used a 5-0 run at the beginning of the fourth quarter to go in front, 54-50, with 8:32 left in the game. Caley Young knocked down a jumper and Natalie Stice followed with a 3-pointer.
 
Rogers got back within two, but then Central put together a 7-0 run to go in front 61-52 with 5:00 left in the game. Aliyah Llanusa scored five in that run and Stice had two more.
 
Llanusa, Stice, and Young led the way for the Bronchos on Saturday. Llanusa had 15 points to go with seven rebounds and six assists. Stice had 13 points, five rebounds, and three steals. And Young added 12 points and seven boards.
 
UCO also got nine points and six rebounds from Alena Wilson, seven points from Reagan Fox, and five from Talia Pogi. Karly Wadsworth chipped in three, LaKysia Johnson and Tayler Factor both scored two, and Gracee Miller added one point.
 
Central Oklahoma shot 40.6 percent from the floor Saturday, making 28 of 69 shots. UCO went 5-for-17 from behind the 3-point line and 8-for-11 from the free-throw line.
 
Five different Bronchos made a 3-pointer. Wilson, Fox, Wadsworth, Pogi, and Stice each knocked one down. Llanusa went 7-for-8 from the free-throw line, Miller made 1 of 2, and Wilson went 0-for-1 with the only other attempt.
 
Saturday, there were 15 lead changes and six ties in the game. In the first half, there were nine lead changes and five ties.
 
UCO earned its largest lead of the game, 11 points, with a 69-58 lead in the final seconds.
 
Central Oklahoma only had two home games on the schedule in January. The Bronchos will visit Northwest Missouri and Missouri Western next week, then make a trip to Newman the following Saturday.
 
In February, Central will play four at home.
