UCO Outpaced By Northeastern State

EDMOND – Central Oklahoma fell behind early and never could get a run together to regain the lead as the Bronchos dropped a 67-59 decision to Northeastern State Thursday night at Hamilton Field House.
 
Central Oklahoma fell to 2-13 on the season with the loss and the Bronchos are now 1-8 in the MIAA. NSU improved to 6-7 overall and 2-5 in league play.
 
"We were close the entire game, we just couldn't get enough of a run put together to get back in front," UCO head women's basketball coach Emma Andrews said. "We played well tonight, but not well enough. Now we need to just put this one away and get ready for the next one."
 
Central had a 6-0 lead in the game Thursday night before NSU followed with a 7-0 run to take its first lead of the game. UCO went back in front 8-7, but then NSU took an 11-10 lead and never looked back from there. The Riverhawks ended the first quarter on an 8-0 run to take a 15-10 lead into the first break.
 
The Bronchos outscored Northeastern 22-21 in the second quarter to chip into the deficit. But NSU then outscored UCO 16-11 in the third quarter to increase the lead. The Bronchos had another one-point advantage in the final frame, 16-15, to reach the final score.
 
Central Oklahoma shot 33.3 percent from the floor on Thursday night, hitting 22 of 66 total shots. The Bronchos were 2-for-20 from behind the arc, a 10.0 percent mark, and 13-for-16 from the free-throw line.
 
Three Bronchos scored in double figures Thursday. Aliyah Llanusa led the way with 16 points. The fifth-year senior went 5-for-9 from the floor, 1-for-4 from behind the arc, and 5-for-7 from the free-throw line. She also added five rebounds, four assists, and two steals before fouling out. She played 38 minutes in the game.
 
LaKysia Johnson added 11 points off the bench, also going 5-for-9 in the game. She added one free-throw, two rebounds, and two blocked shots.
 
Reagan Fox was the third with double figures. She scored 10 points on 3 of 9 shooting, aided by a 4-for-4 mark at the free-throw line. Fox added three rebounds, two steals, one assist and one blocked shot.
 
Caley Young chipped in with nine points and five rebounds to go with two steals and a block. Gracee Miller and Alena Wilson both scored four points. Natalie Stice hit one 3-pointer and finished with three points off the bench and Karly Wadsworth added two more off the bench.
 
Central Oklahoma looks to stop its seven-game losing streak Saturday afternoon when the Bronchos welcome Rogers State to Hamilton Field House. The MIAA matchup tips off at 1:30 p.m.
