UCO Falls To Northwest Missouri

EDMOND – No. 30 Central Oklahoma dropped a 5-2 decision to No. 19 Northwest Missouri Saturday in an MIAA matchup at Broncho Courts.
 
UCO fell to 8-8 overall on the season with the loss and 3-3 in league play. Northwest Missouri, which is now 16-3 overall, improved to 7-0 in the MIAA and clinched the league's regular season title with the win.
 
Northwest won the doubles point with wins at No. 2 & No. 3, with UCO's fourth-ranked duo of Nikki Boyar and Blythe Buntrock winning at No. 1 doubles.
 
Boyar picked up a win at No. 4 singles to tie the match, 1-1, then Pete Komada picked up a win at No. 2 singles in an upset over Northwest's 39th-ranked Tyffaine Pais, to give the Bronchos a 2-1 lead in the match.
 
Unfortunately for Central, Northwest won at No. 5, No. 6, and No. 3 to clinch the match with a 4-2 lead. NWMSU also won at No. 1 singles to finish the match up 5-2.
 
Central Oklahoma will take on its fourth consecutive nationally ranked opponent on Tuesday in a non-conference matchup with Cameron. UCO also go to Emporia State and Newman next weekend to wrap up the regular season.
 
Central Oklahoma is currently tied for fourth in the MIAA standings with one week left in the season. The Bronchos are hosting the 2023 MIAA Women's Tennis Championship at Edmond Center Court April 21-23.
