EDMOND – Central Oklahoma dropped a midweek non-conference dual against Cameron on Tuesday afternoon, falling 5-2 to the longtime Oklahoma rival.
Central Oklahoma is now 8-9 on the season following the loss. The Bronchos are scheduled to wrap up the 2023 regular season this weekend with two MIAA matches at Emporia State and Newman.
Tuesday, Cameron (13-1) won the doubles point and never looked back in winning its first match against the Bronchos since 2017. Central Oklahoma won easily, 6-1, at No. 2 doubles, but Cameron picked up wins at No. 3 and No. 1 to get the early point.
UCO evened the match, 1-1, with a win at No. 2 singles due to medical retirement from Cameron, then the Aggies from Lawton, Oklahoma ran away with the match, winning at the 3, 5, and 6 positions in the lineup.
Central picked up one more point with a three-set win at No. 4 singles before Cameron earned its final point with a three-set win at No. 1 singles.
Central Oklahoma plays at Emporia State Saturday at 2 p.m. and at Newman Sunday at 10 a.m. The 2023 MIAA Women's Tennis Championship is scheduled for April 21-23 at Edmond Center Court.
