UCO Drops Finale At UCM

WARRENSBURG, Mo. – Central Oklahoma was within striking distance of No. 4 Central Missouri for the third day in a row Sunday afternoon, but like the two days before, the Bronchos came up short.

Central Missouri 6, Central Oklahoma 3.

UCO fell to 29-16 on the season with the loss and 16-14 in the MIAA. The Bronchos have just four games left in the 2023 regular season.

"Central Missouri is a good team with a lot of depth and you have to really fight to get one at their place," UCO head baseball coach John Martin said. "We lost by a run twice and had a chance today, but it wasn't enough. We'll have to move on and get ready for next weekend and a strong finish."

UCO is scheduled to play at East Central on Tuesday evening in a non-conference game. The Bronchos will then travel to Emporia, Kansas for a three-game MIAA series at Emporia State to wrap up the season.

Central has clinched a spot in the 2023 MIAA Baseball Championship and can finish either fourth or fifth in the final standings depending on the upcoming final weekend.

On Sunday, Central Missouri jumped out to a 6-0 lead before the Bronchos made a late rally.

UCM scored two in the bottom of the first off starter Aiden Bagwell, then four more in the bottom of the fifth of relievers Racer Felter and Jase Farmer. Bradan Pierce also came out of the bullpen before Felter and threw two scoreless innings. Brandon Gomez kept UCM off the scoreboard over the final three innings.

Noah Olson hit a two-run home run in the bottom of the sixth inning after Kaleb Glass pinged a two-out single. Olson's team leading 11th homer of the season made it 6-2.

The Bronchos got one more in the ninth. Wyatt Gray led off with a double to left center and Cameron Uselton followed with a single to right to move Gray over to third. Gray scored on a passed ball to make it 6-3.
