Bronchos Bounce Emporia

EMPORIA, Kan. – No. 27 Central Oklahoma earned a 4-1 victory at Emporia State Saturday evening as the Bronchos look to continue a final weekend climb in the MIAA.
 
Central Oklahoma improved to 9-9 on the season overall and 4-3 in the MIAA.
 
Saturday, with matches moving indoors at Kossover Family Tennis Complex due to weather, UCO earned a win two matches at a time.
 
The Bronchos got the doubles point with a 6-4 win from No. 4-ranked Nikki Boyar and Blythe Buntrock at the No. 1 position in the lineup. Pete Komada and Nefeli Zafeiri also won 7-5 at the No. 3 position to give UCO an early 1-0 lead in the dual.
 
Komada, ranked No. 32 in the country, won 6-2, 6-4 at No. 2 singles, Zafeiri won 6-2, 6-1 at No. 3 singles, and Boyar won 6-3, 6-2 at No. 4 singles, to give UCO three more wins and four points in the match. Emporia picked up its only point of the day with a wins at No. 1 singles, 6-3, 6-1 over Buntrock.
 
Tizia Brocks went unfinished at No. 5 singles and Karyna Yurchenko never got started at No. 6 singles.
 
The Bronchos will head to Wichita, Kansas to take on Newman Sunday at 1 p.m. in the final match of the 2023 season. The Jets are 9-8 overall and 2-5 in the MIAA.
 
The MIAA Tennis Championship is scheduled to begin Friday afternoon at Edmond Center Court with two play-in duals. The 4-5 and 3-6 seeds in the six-team postseason tournament will face off. The semifinals are scheduled for Saturday with the No. 1 and No. 2 seeds earning a bye to those matches. The 2023 MIAA Women's Tennis Championship match is scheduled for Sunday morning.
