No. 28 Central Oklahoma Crushes Fort Hays State

HAYS, Kan. – No. 28 Central Oklahoma cruised to a 6-1 win against Fort Hays State Saturday afternoon in an MIAA dual.
 
UCO improved to 7-6 overall with the win and the Bronchos are now 2-1 in MIAA play.
 
Saturday, Central Oklahoma earned a 1-0 lead by sweeping the doubles matches. Third-ranked duo Nikki Boyar and Blythe Buntrock picked up a 7-5 win at the No. 1 position in the lineup before Tizia Brocks and Taylor Conway won 6-0 in their first match together at No. 3 doubles. Pete Komada and Nefeli Zafeiri won 6-4 at No. 2 doubles.
 
As the match turned to Singles competition, UCO kept up the pace.
 
Buntrock improved to 2-0 playing at the No. 1 position in the lineup for the Bronchos. The junior from Henderson, Nevada won 7-6 (7-4), 4-6, 1-0 (10-8). Komada picked up a 6-3, 6-4 win at No. 2 singles and Brocks won 7-5, 7-5 at No. 3 singles.
 
Karyna Yurchenko did not play doubles for the first time this season and the freshman from Ukraine cruised to a 6-1, 6-1 win at No. 4 singles on Saturday. Lexi Penn added a 6-1, 6-3 win at No. 5 singles in her first match of the season. Conway dropped her match at No. 6 singles to concede the only point on the day to Fort Hays State. She lost 2-6 in the first set before coming back with a 6-2 win to force a third-set tiebreaker. FHSU won that 1-0 (10-4).
 
UCO will have a quick turnaround before facing No. 44 Nebraska Kearney Sunday morning in another MIAA dual. The Bronchos beat UNK 4-3 in the seventh-place match in February's ITA Indoor National Championships.
