Bronchos Heading To MIAA Championship

KANSAS CITY – Central Oklahoma is returning the MIAA Basketball Championship game for the first time since 2014 after a 55-51 come-from-behind victory against Fort Hays State Saturday afternoon at Municipal Auditorium.
 
UCO is now 26-4 on the season and will face off with Northwest Missouri Sunday in the championship game at 1 p.m.

No. 2 Central Oklahoma and No. 1 seed Northwest Missouri played twice this season, with the home team winning each game.
 
Saturday, Central Oklahoma trailed 8-0 and never led in the first half. The Bronchos got it down to one point, 23-22, but trailed 30-22 at the break.
 
UCO still trailed for the first five minutes of the second half, before a big run that swung the game. Then Central spent nearly four minutes on an 11-2 run and took a 40-39 lead. Even when Fort Hays State added two more, the Bronchos hit them with five in a row and led 45-41 with eight and half minutes to play.
 
UCO never trailed again.
 
The Bronchos kept it 10-10 from that point and picked up the 55-51 win.
 
Jaden Wells had a game-high 21 points on four 3-pointers, and also grabbed five rebounds three steals. Camryn Givens added a monster 16-point, 15-rebound game.
 
Curtis Haywood, Danquez Dawsey, Luke Haasl, Preston Aymond and Tre'Veon Ellis picked up the other 18 points.
 
UCO shot 39.2 percent, including 35.7 percent (5-for-14) from behind the arc. The Bronchos were 10 of 14 from the free-throw line.
