UCO Run-Rules OBU, Takes Season Series

SHAWNEE, Okla. – Central Oklahoma picked up an 11-1 run rule victory over Oklahoma Baptist Tuesday evening with the midweek non-conference game ending after seven innings with the Bronchos way out in front.

UCO, which snapped a two-game slide with the win, improved to 18-8 on the year with the win. The Bronchos also won the season series with Oklahoma Baptist (14-11) after the teams split two meetings in Edmond in February.

Diego Dominguez threw a complete game in earning the win. The right-hander struck out three over seven innings, allowing just the one run on five hits and a walk. Dominguez gave up five hits, but only one after the third inning.

Central Oklahoma jumped out to a big lead early on Tuesday. Cameron Uselton led off the top of the second inning with a solo home run to left field that started a rally.

Jose Luna followed with a single, and Wyatt Gray scored him with a one-out triple down the right field line. Landen Wood scored Gray with a single to make it 3-0, then he scored when Aiden Proctor singled to right field. Noah Olson finished off the rally with a two-out, two-run home run to right field, scoring Proctor on the play and giving the Bronchos a 6-0 lead.

In the third, the Bronchos kept it going. Uselton led off the inning again and doubled down the right field line. Luna singled again and then, with Uselton on third, stole second to put two in scoring position. Gray scored Uselton on a groundout to shortstop and then Wood scored Luna to make it 8-0, UCO.

OBU got its only run of the day in the bottom of the third after a leadoff double and a pair of groundouts.

UCO got that one back in a hurry when Olson hit a solo home run to center with one out in the top of the fourth.

Central Oklahoma cooled off briefly, not scoring in the fifth or sixth innings, but in the top of the seventh, the Bronchos put it away.

Gray led off with a walk and advanced to second on a groundout, then to third on a flyout to right field. He scored on a wild pitch to make it 10-1. Orlando Gonzalez then walked, stole second and advanced to third and home on back-to-back wild pitches by OBU to give the Bronchos the 11-1 lead and the 10-run lead needed to end the game early. Dominguez came back out in the seventh and got a 1-2-3 inning to end the game.

Olson finished the game 3-for-4 with two homers and a double. He had three RBIs and scored twice. Luna also went 3-for-4 and scored twice.

Uselton finished the game 2-for-3 with the home run and the double. He had one RBI and two runs scored. Wood also went 2-for-3 with two RBIs and one run scored.

UCO is back to MIAA play this weekend and the Bronchos are on the road again as well. Central Oklahoma takes on Newman in a three-game MIAA series beginning Friday in Wichita.
