Minter Homer Lifts Bronchos Past TWU

CONROE, Texas (Feb. 4) – Jacee Minter belted a solo home run in the top of the eighth inning to lift No. 8-ranked Central Oklahoma to a 5-4 come-from-behind victory over Texas Woman's on the second day of the Division II Spring Invitational Kickoff Saturday.

The Bronchos dropped an 8-3 decision to Oklahoma Christian in their first game Saturday and trailed the Pioneers 3-0 after five innings before rallying to pull out the extra-inning triumph.

UCO is now 3-1 and finishes up the season-opening event Sunday with games against St. Mary's and No. 3 Texas-Tyler.

"We didn't play very well today and were fortunate to come out with one win," head coach Cody White said. "I was proud of the way we hung in there against TWU and found a way to get it done at the end.

"Jacee had a big game for us and obviously came up with a huge hit at the end. We will need to play a lot better tomorrow against two really good teams."

The Bronchos managed just one hit in the first five innings against TWU and entered the top of the sixth trailing 3-0.

Rylee Lemos got UCO going in the sixth with a lead-off single down the left field line and Terin Ritz had a one-out base hit through the right side before Minter drove in both runners with a triple to right-center.

Korbyn Skipworth drew a two-out walk to keep the inning alive and Amelya Huggins gave the Bronchos a 4-3 lead with a two-run double to right-center.

TWU came back to tie it in the bottom of the sixth with a single run and neither team threatened in the seventh.

Minter put UCO on top to stay with her one-out drive over the left field wall. It was the first homer of the young season – and the 25th career shot – for the junior All-American.

Ritz then finished off a complete-game outing in the circle by putting the Pioneers down in order in the  bottom of the eighth to complete the comeback.

Minter went 3-of-4 to lead UCO's seven-hit attack. Ritz allowed six hits while striking out six and walking one in earning her first pitching win of the year.
