No. 6 UCO Tames Tigers

EDMOND (Feb. 17) – Jordyn Pipkin threw a four-hit shutout and Central Oklahoma walked off an 8-0 run-rule rout of East Central on Tatum Long's massive two-run home run in the bottom of the fifth inning Friday night at Gerry Pinkston Stadium.

The No. 6-ranked Bronchos went 2-0 on the first day the Raising Cane's Festival, following up an 8-3 win over Arkansas Tech with their first shutout of the young season. UCO, now 6-2, meets No. 16 Southern Arkansas at 3:30 p.m. Saturday before playing two games Sunday.

"It was a good day," head coach Cody White said. "We weren't as crisp offensively against East Central as we were in the first game, but we found a way to score some runs and Jordyn threw really well."

Pipkin scattered four hits while striking out three in an efficient 71-pitch outing. The sophomore right-hander didn't walk a batter in improving to 2-1 on the season.

The Bronchos managed just six hits, getting two apiece from Long and Shayla Harper.

UCO took an early lead in the second, scoring twice on just one hit. Long started the inning with a single up the middle and Korbyn Skipworth walked, with two wild pitches and Rylee Anglen's RBI groundout giving the Bronchos a 2-0 advantage.

Central made it 4-0 in the third, again on just one hit. Jacee Minter walked to lead off and Harper followed with a single up the middle, then both scored on an error.

Two more runs came across in the fourth as Anglen led off with a single up the middle and freshman Rylee Lemos followed with the first homer of her college career, this one a line-drive laser that barely cleared the wall in right-center.

UCO ended it quickly in the fifth. Harper got the inning going with a base hit to center field and then Long cranked a no-doubt bomb high over the left field fence for her first homer as a Broncho to make it 8-0.
