UCO Downed At Missouri Southern

Central Oklahoma Falls 86-65 In MIAA Road Game

JOPLIN, Mo. – Central Oklahoma dropped an MIAA contest at Missouri Southern Thursday night in the first of two road games this week for the Bronchos.

UCO forced 20 turnovers and made 11 steals, but the host Lions shot the ball with impressive numbers in the win. Central shot 36.6 percent overall, 15.4 percent from behind the arc, and went 9-for-13 from the free-throw line. But Southern shot 50 percent overall, 50 percent from behind the arc, and went 27-for-34 from the free-throw line.
 
Aliyah Llanusa led the Bronchos with a double double. The fifth-year senior from Choctaw, Oklahoma scored a season-high 13 points and added a season-high 10 rebounds. Llanusa was 5-for-11 from the field and made all three of her free-throw attempts.
 
Karly Wadsworth and Aspen Williston both scored 10 points Thursday night. Wadsworth went 3-for-9 from the floor and hit two 3-pointers. She also made both of her free-throw attempts and had three steals. Williston went 5-for-5 from the floor and added three boards.
 
UCO led for most of the first quarter with a 10-5 advantage midway through the opening frame. Missouri Southern made a late 6-0 run in the first quarter to take its first lead of the game. The Bronchos fought back and the game was tied, 19-19, at the end of the first quarter.
 
The Bronchos struggled in the second quarter offensively, shooting just 23.9 percent. But a stout defense kept UCO close. The Bronchos trailed 39-30 at halftime.
 
Central Oklahoma got back in the game quickly in the third quarter, opening the frame on a 9-2 run to cut the deficit to two points, 41-39. UCO's 9-2 run was sparked by a 5-0 stretch from Wadsworth and a 4-0 stretch from Williston. But as soon as the Bronchos got back, Southern turned it back on pulled away again. MSSU led by as many as 12 on a couple of occasions and led by 10 at the end of the third quarter, 49-39.
 
Missouri Southern pulled away in the fourth quarter, outscoring the Bronchos 27-16 in the final 10 minutes to earn the 86-65 win.
 
Caley Young added six points and Reagan Fox had five points and five rebounds. Natalie Stice, Tayler Factor, and LaKysia Johnson each scored four points. Stice added three steals and Factor had two. Alena Wilson and Lexi Foreman both scored three points, Talia Pogi had two, and Alexis Lewis had one.
 
Central Oklahoma continues its weekend road trip at Pittsburg State Saturday afternoon. Tipoff is scheduled for 1:30 p.m.
