Bronchos Pull Away In Final Minutes To Beat Blue Tigers

EDMOND – Central Oklahoma fought through a tough fourth quarter and rallied late to earn a 71-64 MIAA victory over Lincoln at Hamilton Field House.

The Bronchos improved to 2-6 on the season with the win and 1-1 in the MIAA. Lincoln is 4-3 and also 1-1.

The Bronchos shot 40.7 percent overall on Saturday, hitting 24 of 59 shots. UCO went 7-for-18 from behind the 3-point line and 16-for-23 from the free-throw line. Natalie Stice led the Bronchos with 21 points and Reagan Fox chipped in 13 to give UCO two in double figures.

Stice was 7-for-12 and hit three 3-pointers as well as all five of her free-throws. The sixth-year senior from Texas added five rebounds and one steal in the game. Fox went 3-for-7 with all of her makes coming from outside and she also went 4-for-4 from the free-throw line. Fox added two boards, one assist, and one blocked shot.

UCO led by eight after the first quarter. Lincoln scored first to go up 3-0, but when UCO went in front 6-3 thanks to Fox's first 3-pointer, UCO didn't trail again and led 18-12 at the first break.

Lincoln got within three points on three different occasions in the second quarter, and even two points in the final minute before Alena Wilson's layup gave the Bronchos a 35-31 lead. That's how the game went to halftime.

Central Oklahoma allowed Lincoln to see its first lead since the beginning of the game in the third quarter. The guests opened the quarter with an 8-3 run to go in front, 39-38. There were five lead changes from that point to the end of the third quarter. Aliyah Llanusa gave the Bronchos a 52-51 lead. LaKysia Johnson scored with 33 seconds left to make it 54-51 going to the break.

Lincoln kept it interesting in the fourth quarter. In the first seven minutes of the quarter, a 10-8 advantage for Lincoln, there were four more lead changes. But when the Bronchos went down 61-59 with 3:22 to play, an 8-0 run followed and Central took control. UCO ended the game on a 12-3 run to earn the 71-64 victory.

Wilson finished with nine points and a season-high 12 rebounds. She was 4-for-12 from the floor and made her only free-throw attempt. Wilson also had two steals and one block.
