Bob Hoffman Wins 600th Game As No. 3 Central Tops Lincoln

Central Oklahoma Beats Lincoln 79-55 To Improve To 7-0 On The Year

EDMOND – No. 3 Central Oklahoma beat Lincoln Saturday earning head coach Bob Hoffman his 600th career victory as men's college basketball coach.
 
The Bronchos, with a 79-55 victory, improved to 7-0 on the season and 2-0 in the MIAA. It's the second consecutive year the Bronchos have opened with a 7-0 record.
 
"I've been blessed with good players and good assistant coaches," Hoffman said. "It's great to reach this mark but it's a reflection of all of the people that have helped me along the way."
 
Hoffman came to UCO in 2019 with 519 career victories. He is 81-42 in his fifth season at Central. Hoffman won 242 games with Oklahoma Baptist, 68 at Texas Pan-American, and 209 at Mercer before coming to UCO.
 
Hoffman also won 88 games as a women's head coach at Southern Nazarene and is now at 688 total wins for his career as a college head coach.
 
Saturday, after four early lead changes, the Bronchos eventually cruised past Lincoln for its seventh win in a row. After Lincoln went in front 9-7, the Bronchos got the lead back and never looked back.
 
Midway through the first half, a 13-1 run sparked the outbreak.
 
Parker Hannah hit a 3-pointer before Lincoln got one free-throw. Then Hannah hit another, Preston Aymond scored on a driving layup, and Matthew Willenbord also made a layup. Then Aymond knocked down another 3-pointer. The 18-16 came quickly became 32-17 in three and a half minutes and the Bronchos cruised from there.
 
Central outscored Lincoln 14-11 in the final 10 minutes of the first half and took a 46-28 lead into halftime. The Bronchos outscored the Blue Tigers from Jefferson City, Missouri 33-27 in the second half to earn the win.
 
Hannah led the Bronchos with 12 points. He was one of three to score a dozen. He and Mike Quick Jr. both did off the bench. The Broncho bench outscored the Lincoln reserves 42-10 in the game.
 
Jaden Wells also scored 12 points, knocking down two 3-pointers. Jalyn Turner and Majok Majouk both scored eight points. Aymond finished with seven points and six boards. Luke Haasl had six points, five rebounds and one block. Willenborg also scored six and had a team-high eight rebounds and two blocks.
 
Danquez Dawsey finished with four points and seven assists, Connor Newton added three points, and Caiden Punt scored one.
 
Central Oklahoma shot 49.1 percent from the floor, hitting 28 of 57 shots. The Bronchos were 9 of 26 from behind the 3-point line and 14 of 22 from the free-throw line.
 
UCO continues MIAA play on the road next week. The Bronchos play at Missouri Southern Thursday, Dec. 7 and at Pittsburg State Saturday, Dec. 9. Central is home again Monday, Dec. 11 to take on Tabor College.
