Central Oklahoma Routs NAIA Tabor To Improve To 9-1 On The Season

EDMOND – Central Oklahoma played all 14 squad members Monday night and all 14 scored as the Bronchos put on a clinic inside Hamilton Field House in beating Tabor College 105-57.

The Bronchos improved to 9-1 on the season with the win. With 14 players scoring, six had double figures.

Freshman Matthew Willenborg led the Bronchos with his first career double-double, posting 14 points and 10 rebounds. The Norman native went 6-for-8 from the floor and 2-for-2 from the free-throw line. He also had two blocks in the game.

Parker Hannah, also a freshman, added 10 points on 3 of 6 shooting. The Keller, Texas native hit two 3-pointers and made both of his free-throw attempts. He added a pair of assists too.

Sophomores Mike Quick Jr. and Majok Majouk added a combined 25 points. Majouk had 13 points, four rebounds and three blocked shots. He was 6-for-8 from the floor. Quick Jr. added a dozen points, six boards, three assists and two steals.

Those four were key in Central's 67 bench points on Monday night, enough to win the game without the starting lineup.

Starters Luke Haasl (12) and Jaden Wells (11) also scored in double figures. Haasl was 5-for-8 from the floor and made both of his free-throws. He added four boards and one block. Wells went 4-for-10 from the floor, knocking down one 3-pointers and a pair of free-throws. He also had six steals, three rebounds, and three assists.

Evan Barber added to the freshman attack on Monday. He scored nine points and hit one 3-pointer. Danquez Dawsey added nine points and five assists.

Jalyn Turner added five, Connor Newton scored three, and Caiden Punt, Gunner Korstjens, and Jarreth Ingram all had two points. Preston Aymond finished with one point and four rebounds.

Central Oklahoma shot 52.6 percent from the floor on Monday night, making 40 of 76 shots. The Bronchos were 8-for-26 from behind the arc, a 30.8 percent rate. UCO also went 17-for-22 from the free-throw line.

UCO got a bucket from Haasl to get on the scoreboard and after leading 5-3 just two minutes into the game, the Bronchos trampled Tabor with a 13-0 run in the next three minutes. Five different players hit a shot during that run and UCO just got better from there.

The Bronchos outscored 51-25 in the first half, with a Willenbord 3-pointer at the buzzer getting waived off after a video review. UCO outscored Tabor 54-32 in the second half in route to victory.

Central Oklahoma has two more non-conference games left this season and both are next week. UCO, along with Pittsburg State, is reviving the historic High Desert Classic in Las Vegas. The two-day, 10-team festival tips off Monday, Dec. 18. The Bronchos will play Henderson State Monday at 4 p.m. (Pacific) and Missouri – St. Louis Tuesday, Dec. 19 at the same time.

After Christmas, UCO returns to MIAA play for the remainder of the season. The Bronchos play Nebraska Kearney Dec. 29 and Fort Hays State on New Year's Eve. Central has 16 MIAA contests scheduled in 2024.
